Can gallstones cause my period to be heavy?
I have been told that I have gallstones and that I need my gallbladder removed. I am trying to hold off on surgery until I can get insurance. I was stupid and ate something new for the holidays. Some type of bread. Omg I had the worst attack of pain ever! The day after I started my period and it is extremely heavy. Is this connected?

Hi
It is more likely that your gallstones and heavy period are connected to the same cause: estrogen.
Women who are on oral contraceptives or estrogen replacement are at greater risk of developing gallstones and other gallbladder conditions. Also, being overweight, which is often accompanied by having excess estrogen, in another independent, but related, cause of gallstones.
Many people regret having had their gallbladders removed. It’s worth looking into ways of keeping yours intact while there’s still time!
Here are some links I hope will help!
Good luck!
I think it actually could be connected if you are starting to have complications from the gallstones. The gallbladder stores and excretes bile from the liver, Its like a pump to help break down fatty foods. When it gets backed up with stones, The bile could start backing up into your liver causing pancreatitis and liver failure and could become a medical emergency. I say that it could be connected because liver problems can cause the blood to thin. Just get checked out again to be safe. The billiary pancreatitis is a common complication.
The answer could vary by person. It is alway a good idea to hear the suggestion from different sides and try to choose the best one. Here is a good one i recommend.
