No. There is no corelation between ulcerative colitis or Chrons with colon cancer. Research has hard facts which show that those with Chrons or UC do not have higher incidents of cancer. It is the same for those with IBS as general population. The difference – those with UC and Chrons often are checked out more frequently by doctors and usually have frequent colonoscopies, therefore, if any cancer markers show up it will be dealt with at the pre-cancer stage.
They make one more susceptible to it, but only marginally. There is a higher risk if it goes untreated or if conditions worsen. This is what my doctors have told me for my similar condition. I started treatment and lifestyle changes immediately.
Try looking at the Mayo Clinic web site. It is very easy to follow and gives fantastic information.
Go to http://www.mayoclinic.com. Hope this helps.
Well, my nephew was diagnosed with colitis. (Poor kid, he is only 17) I was talking to my mother-in-law about it. She said he has to monitor what he eats, and keep an eye on it. She says it can turn into cancer, but it doesn’t always. He has to take meds for the rest of his life and eliminate certain foods from his diet. Hopefully, it doesn’t progress. Hope that helps.
The suffix part of each word, itis , means inflammation. It can be caused by a variety of sources and not necessarily having to do with either cancer. Gastritis is common and colitis is more serious of the two conditions. They are not something to guess on. You can get detailed info on these to do either a google search or to go to mayoclinic or webmd and see what they list from the general description to symptoms to treatment of what they involve. Have a doctor diagnose this.
