hi, sorry to hear your partner is so ill, I have had colitis for 9 years and can give you the advice that has helped me, I now see a specialist for whom I am a bit of a guinea pig to try new treatments,I presume she will be on steroids and possibly antibiotics which can also make you feel yuk.
the first thing is she should avoid all non soluable fibre, these are things the colon can not digest and will irritate and hang round in the bowel, possibly causing ulcers, these things are, cabbage, caulifower, broccolli, sweetcorn, mushrooms , soya, raw onions tomatoe seeds and there is an arguement about limiting dairy especially cream cheeses as these cause excess acids and produce lactulose which irritate, I find you just need to limit them, not totally avoid . Fiber is fine , things like peeled pears apples and what settles me the most is mash. When I have an episode I stay with my mum, who make a lot of plainly cooked fish and mash, mangoes and oats.Basically she'll probably not have much of an appetitite, so small snacks or meals, I often start with meal replacements, hopefully she,ll see a dietition and must keep an eye on iron levels especially if she's lost blood. You can manage the condition, I was in hospital 8 weeks ago with massive complications, infected ruptured bowel, I never felt I would be well again but the past weekend I went to the seaside and walked along the cliffs with my kids, with the aid of painkillers.there are societies you can join[one where you get a special key to let you in all disabled loos] all the best she will be a bit down, its great she has someone to care for her, hope she's better soon ,lolxx
