For most people, a combination of Asacol and Prednisone, while avoiding certain "trigger" foods, is the best remedy.
I was diagnosed about a year ago with mild/moderate UC, and have learned a lot about certain things that make my it flare-up the most:
- Caffeine
- Alcohol
- Lactose based foods/drinks
- Spicy foods
- Stress
You might notice more/other things that cause flare-ups, but a bland diet and the right medication is the best way to keep it under control. If Asacol/Prednisone don’t work (they should), then ask your Doctor about Remicade infusions. They seem to help me more than the oral medications.
Personally i have eliminated wheat and dairy and take high dose probiotics such as Natren or Udo’s Super 8.
