How can I stop approaching IBS spasm?

I have IBS, and on some days I can sort of feel a certain yuckiness that signal that in a couple of hours I’m going to be in some pretty bad pain(intense cramps for about 30 minutes to a couple of hours). Is there any specific foods, nonprescription medicines, or drinks that can help ward it off before it gets bad?

My daughter had a very bad case of this ultimately requiring surgery for correction (which was curative in her case). I lived with her through this including all visits with the doctor and all of the dietary experimentation. As you know, there is plenty of advice about what not to eat and drink but I’ve seen nothing about foods or drinks which are preventive or even helpful in reducing symptoms.
Over-the-counter medications such as Imodium can help control diarrhea but the more potent anticholinergic medications used to treat abdominal cramping and spasms are not available OTC. Through my daughter’s experience, I learned just how painful and disruptive to your life this condition can be. I wish you quick relief. I know it’s almost impossible but try to avoid as much stress as possible. Good luck!!
