The prep for a colonoscopy is the worst part of the whole thing. You’ll be asked to drink or take in pill form an over the counter laxative. Make sure you are at home when you start this prep because you’ll spend most of the afternoon/evening in the bathroom! That’s the worst part. Mine was done under IV sedation so I didn’t have to be completely knocked out, but they gave me enough sedation that I did not wake up during the procedure, nor do I remember anything after I went out for my "nap". =) I was afraid my bum would hurt the next day but it didn’t hurt at all and they even found a polyp and removed it. Like I said, the worst part is the prep. Make sure you continue to drink clear liquids as long as you can so you stay hydrated. Good luck =)
Nothing to it. it’s the prep that’s the worst. The prep cleans colon so they can cam it and see wots there and wots not. Don’t be scared there’s nottin to it. Good Luk
its normal to feel anxiety before any nedical procedures especially if its your first time to undergo it. coloscopy preparations usually is ordered eight hours before the procedure, you wontbe able to eat 8 hours before, your colon would be cleanse with enema, or laxative to cleanse the colon for maximum visualization of it. why dont u ask your doctor to let u see the machine and explain how it is done, so that at least ur anxiety will be lessened. you will remove all your jewelries and dentures, becuase it may cause aspiration during the procedure. Having informations like that will surely lessened ur concerns. then on the day of the procedure, u will be given topical anesthesia to numb your oral cavity for easy insertion of the tube and will directly visualize you gastric and colon system. its just a short procedure, depending on what part and what type of colonscopy the doctor will performed on to you. then after the procedure, you will be not allowed to eat because it may cause aspiration, since ur gag reflex is inhibited by the anesthesia. it may takes 2-3 hours before the gag reflex returns. then you can already drink or eat. my mothe had it last year due to her gastritis, i was there and able to witness the procedure. its a non painful procedure. and it just took few minutes to perform. be sure you have someone like a relative or a friend with you, for emotional support and to reassure you that its gonna be okay. if you still have worries or questions, talk to your doctor, he or she will surely willing to explain your concerns.
