How long it takes to form depends on the cause. If the cause is too much acidity then it generally takes several years. Very small kidney stones don’t normally give you many problems and it is only when they grow bigger that they become a problem. They can lead to the passing of blood and very severe and stinging backaches.
If the cause is supreme and extreme dehydration then they form much faster and this is the real danger. If, for example, you have a lot of saunas or even spabaths after swimming what you should do is to drink plenty of water before and after your saunas to prevent severe dehydration which can lead to kidney stones in a very short time.
Try a search for "kidney stones" + dehydration and hopefully you will learn more.
They can take years to days. Mine have formed in as little as 2 days . I had a 15mm form in a week before my lithotrispy. I have found that since I started to drink 2 8oz glasses of real lemon aid I have had no mre stones forming.
Kidney stones go the medical name of renal calculi (plural) and calculus (singular). They are not made of protein or red meat. They are minerals (calcium, phosphate, oxalate, urate, cystate and xanthine for starters). It usually takes several years for them to form and even then they often cause no immediate problems.
