If it's not runny and there are no other symptoms, it is overactive bowel syndrome, not ibs. If it is runny but with no pain and no other symptoms, it is functional diarrhoea, unless a cause for the diarrhoea is found.

But it makes little difference what you call it. They are just random names given by doctors in an attempt to classify baffling symptoms.

You are certainly going too much, so you should have any tests that doctors recommend. Then if, as is very likely, no cause is found, try various alternative remedies.

I'm giving you a link to a rather unusual one. It has a high success rate with all kinds of bowel problems, but does not work quickly and many people give up because they see no difference. You have to use it daily for at least a year. Here it is.

http://maul.samara.ru/~paracels/

On reading about it, it will seem unlikely, and the site doesn't really describe the treatment well, particularly with all that misleading talk about elderly people. But if you research it (try googling kolb, buteyko, and look for Peter Kolb's website as a starting point) you will see that although it is an alternative therapy, it is based on hard science and the findings of a real doctor in the 1950s in Russia.

However the chances are that your bowel frequency will reduce in time. Anything up to twice each day is normal, but you are still some way over that. Good luck.
