Buprenorphine, (Subutex, Suboxone) is an addicting opiate drug with agonist/partial agonist and receptor agonist/antagonist actions. The antagonist action is not useful and has no effect when a person uses this drug sublingually (under the tongue). The Naloxone (antagonist) in this medication is only activated when the Buprenorphine (Suboxone) is delivered intravenously (the person shoots it up). It was first marketed in the 1980s by Reckitt & Colman as an analgesic, available generally as Buprenex in a 0.3 mg/ml injectable formulation in the United States.
Thanks….
No. please don’t. Just be honest and tell your anesthesiologist what you used and when.
We do not routinely test for drugs. We ask you and expect you to be honest. We are not the cops, and don’t call them for drug use. (We will call if you steal our prescription pads, though)
Your anesthesiologist really needs to know what drugs you have taken and how recently, in order to not kill you. If you show up high, your surgery will probably be canceled.
The drug detox isn’t going to work anyway, and may interfere with the anesthesia, so just don’t bother.
