Does anyone know if you’re scheduled for a colonoscopy (or a similar exam,) if you can skip the nasty tasting liquid and/or laxative pills that are prescribed for this exam along with the fasting and clear liquid diet , if you just go for a colonic before the test instead? At least a colonic is a pleasant and very neat and sanitary procedure that I would think would achieve the same cleansing results (without having to spend the day before on the ‘throne’.) Medical professional answers appreciated.

I have been having issues with my gall bladder for a few years now but all the tests show nothing. I have had an ultrasound, CT scan, blood work, upper GI, colonoscopy, and a HIDA Scan. Everything has come back normal except that I experienced tremendous pain during the HIDA scan when they caused the gall bladder to contract. I would really like to get it out as it has been causing me many problems. Anyone else dealt with this issue?
Have you been able to have it removed?

If you are sure that you have IBS, do you have to have a colonoscopy done or can the doctor just prescribe the medication that you need to be "normal"?

My mother is in her late 50’s, and was hospitalized about 4 days ago with vomiting and bloody diarrhea. After being misdiagnosed with "ce difficile", and having a colonoscopy, she was diagnosed with ischemic colitis. I’ve heard that this condition can range from extremely mild to needing surgery. She hasn’t kept solid food down in a week. Does anyone know what treatment/s she might require?
Thank you!!!

My grandma did a colonoscopy which came back good today..she is having severe diarrhea though. Is this normal? For how long does this continue? Is it ok to give her some diarrhea medicine?
She had a bowel obstruction about a week ago, but it is now cleared.

I was recently hospitalized due to my very first severe attack with colitis. I have always suffered along with this ailment throughout my childhood and now well into my 50’s. However, it has always subsided with a common sense diet etc but no medication. This time around I could do nothing to stop the pain and even had intestinal bleeding. The doctor released me from the hospital with a very restricted diet. I am on 2 courses of antibiotics and pain killers. I have been home for 3 days and am just beginning to feel better. I have just started eating solids like baby food, jello, toast, cottage cheese etc. Can I ever try chocolate or any of the other foods I so love again? I will be going for a colonoscopy soon and have made an appointment with another doctor. My sons have Crohn’s desease. This seems to run in our family. What else can I expect from this illness?

And how does one get screened for Intestinal cancer?
Colon cancer runs in my family and I have a colonoscopy every year. But I found out that a close relative has Intestinal cancer.

I am a disabled senior and just recently began experiencing sharp pain in my lower left quadrant and found that I have diverticulitis (as did my mother). I have gone through 2 flareups, taken antibiotics and changed my entire diet (seems to help a great deal with bm’s), but am wondering if I should cleanout the entire system of buildup. I surely don’t want to opt for surgery if irrigation(s) will help and aren’t precluded by having diverticulitis. I surely don’t want to aggravate these pouches and chance rupturing them.
Anyone having any experience with either diverticulitis and its recommended diet, and/or colonic irrigations (high colonics), please advise and thank you all.
I’m waiting on test results of colonoscopy.

I’ve been reading about colon cleansing kits online, and I came across an article that tells me you can follow the instructions for a colonoscopy prep and get the same results. Is this true?

I have diaherra at least a few days out of the week with stomach cramps. When I use the bathroom the stomach cramps are somewhat relived. I ahve had these problems for years. But lately its worse, I had a colonoscopy last month so I don’t have colitis or anything and everything with my colon is normal. I go to a GI spealist this week.
The diaherra happens usually after eating greasy food like McDonalds and sometimes after Mexican food.

My stomach has been very weird since I was stationed in VA.
I saw a show about Celiac Disease and swore up and down that I was going through the same things.
I am always tired, I have constipation/diarrhea in alternation, sometimes I’m bloated, my allergies change (one minute I’m allergic to wheat and can eat dairy and then I am lactose intolerant and can eat wheat), my body really shuts down at times,…
It’s not so bad now but I begged my doctor to test me for Celiac and he told me I was overexaggerating and it’s just lactose intolerance. I wanted to smack him because I don’t even eat a lot of dairy products and I knew it was the wheat doing those things to me. Ironically, some months later, dairy products tore me up but the symptoms weren’t the same.
I had a colonoscopy, everything and all my test results came back negative. SO, how can you REALLY tell whether it’s IBS or Celiac?

I think I am having a colitis flare-up. I haven’t had a colonoscopy yet, but I have rectal bleeding.
I know that I should stay AWAY from ibuprofen (Advil) and probably should also stay away from aspirin.
Is it safe to take paracetamol/acetaminophen (Tylenol)?

I was diagnosed with diverticulosis, after a colonoscopy. The symptoms I have are chronic constipation with bloating. I see that the symptoms are the same for IBS. I am wondering if there are two different names for the same condition?

Is the only way to diagnose IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) with a endoscopy or colonoscopy?
Has anyone gotten medication for IBS without an edoscopy or colonoscopy?
I have a referral to a GI but I do not want to go if I know for sure the only way to diagnose my IBS is with an endoscopy or colonoscopy.
