I have suffered with stomach problems for almost the entire summer. For a few months now I have had chronic constipation, and then an occasional day of diarrhea. I have never had anything like this before. I know that alternating diarrhea and constipation are signs of IBS, but I do not have any other symptoms such as abdominal pain. So could I have IBS, or maybe it’s another digestive problem? What steps should I take to end my chronic constipation? Thanks.

I’m 11 weeks pregnant and for the past 2 weeks I have been having terrible stomach pains and diarrhea nearly every time I eat. I can’t relate it to any particular type of food and on rare occasions it doesn’t happen at all. Did anyone else have this?

Some people say it’s regular constipation, some say it’s regular diarrhea, some say its constipation that comes and goes, some say it’s diarrhea that comes and goes, some say it alternates between the two, some say its BOTH at the same time.. like bowel movements that start hard and then get softer and then get runny toward the end…
I’m really confused.. what ARE the symptoms of IBS?

I’ve been having stomach problems for the past 3 or 4 months. I’ve been constipated constantly and when I manage to go (every 4 or 5 days) I have diarrhea. Almost every day I’ve been bloated and I’ve suddenly gotten a sharp pain in the left side of my groin. I’ve tried Miralax, Correctol, vegetable laxatives, plum juice and eating numerous vegetables but nothing helps. Could it be possible that I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
My stomach is also very tender to the touch and has this strange uncomfortable feeling.

I am asking this because I think I have it. I have been to the doctor several times and even had a colonoscopy about 11 months ago. I have diarrhea maybe twice a week. Sometimes after spicy food and sometimes after regular food. I hate having this, and what can I do to make it stop? I am just wondering if anyone else has this same problem?
also the symptoms are much worse during my period. Does endometriosis cause diarrhea at other times and not just during the period?

I’m studying for my pharm. quiz/lecture tomorrow, and I have come across two drugs that are targeted toward women for IBS. These drugs are Amitiza (lubiprostone) and Alosetron (Lotronex). It says the Amitiza is for women with constipation predominant IBS and Alosetron is for women with diarrhea predominant IBS.
My question is…why are these targeted for women only?
Details are great.
Thanks in advance.

As long as I can remember, I have always seemed to have weird bowel movements. Lately I have been really bloated and constipated then once I would push it out, I would have really runny, mucousy diarrhea. I know that the mucous isn’t good and I should go to the doctor about that, but does it sound like I could have IBS?

I have been very prepared to get my first colonoscopy over with this morning. However, I began the mandatory colon cleansing around 6 pm last night and experienced no bowel movement whatsoever. I followed the MoviPrep instructions exactly and absolutely nothing. I poop all the time (diarrhea) and then they tell me to down some heavy duty laxative that tastes like salt and this doesn’t make me go! What the hell is going on?

My husband has Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). We never know what is going to trigger an episode. By epsode I mean abdominal cramps, and some heinous diarrhea. It hits within moments of eating. If he eats something one night and has no episode, we never know if two weeks later eating the exact same thing will send his system into fits of IBS. So there are no foods that we know to avoid. Heck, eating some nutter-butter crackers set him off tonight! Some evenings we can’t even leave the house because a toilet has to be nearby.
It seems to be a mystery condition. His General Practitioner gave him some medicine to ‘stop colon spasms’, thinking that would help, but it has done nothing beneficial at all. I’m thinking we need to take him to a Gastrointerologist. But from what I’ve heard, there is just no cure.
Does anyone else out there have this, or lives with someone who has it. If so, what on earth can be done? It is miserable.

Is there any correlation between a bad gall bladder and Crohn’s disease or any correlation between Crohn’s disease and hypokalemia? My potassium keeps dropping…I am not eating a lot but I am also not getting sick enough to have what I do eat cause the loss of potassium.
I am vomiting about 1-3xday and had severe diarrhea about 3 weeks ago but I haven’t had any of that for about 10 days….this is the 2nd time my potassium has nosedived.

I have tried all the meds docs have prescribed, including Zelnorm.Nothing works.Though a cure would be nice,I’m just looking for something to relieve the pain and discomfort,at least enough to let me have somewhat of a normal life.My type of IBS is with constipation, not diarrhea.

I was diagnosed in December with this. I have done well on the steroid I was given until recently. For the last 3 days I have had abdominal pain, upper and lower. Along with diarrhea, painful and cramping diarrhea. My insides ache constantly. I’m afraid to eat much since what goes in does come out. I feel weak and tired.
I would appreciate any advice on how to manage this and feel better. Thanks so much for your help!

For a while now I’ve been experiencing abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation. I would often alternate from being constipated to having diarrhea. I usually feel relieved when I defecate, whether it be from regular bowel movements or loose bowel movements. I am worried that I may have developed Irritable Bowel Syndrome, because some of the symptoms match these sensations that I’ve been experiencing. All your answers will be greatly appreciated.
