What can I expect after gall bladder removal?
Will I feel different. Will things change with me? Will things operate better?
I have a build up of sludge and the gall bladder barely works, if at all. I have no pain, but obviously there are a few problems. What can I expect after it is removed. Will I feel different? Will things change?

You will produce bile in a constant drip-drip-drip through the bile duct into your duodenum, rather than having it squirted in on-demand by the gall bladder. This may affect your ability to digest very fatty meals and may cause discomfort or diarrhea. Also, for a few weeks after surgery you may have bowel problems (diarrhea) until your lower intestine gets used to the irritation caused by having unused bile sloshing around. Bile is nasty stuff.
Hopefully you won’t have any complications, but don’t be kidded that things are risk-free. Be aware of what your body is doing after you leave hospital. If you start to feel ill in the first week after you go home, if you get any kind of fever, be sure to contact your surgeon as there may be a problem.
You might gain weight, not alot. And the is because you are able to eat things you couldn’t when your gallbladder was bothering you. You won’t feel any different, but if you were having alot of problems with it, you will feel alot better..
You will still be you only less a gallbladder.
You won’t be able to ‘sense’ your gall bladder being gone.
One good thing…you won’t get the horrid pain after eating certain fatty foods.
Not unlike our appendix’s…your gall bladder isn’t required for healthy life.
Plus, today they do a much easier surgery to remove the gall bladder. It used to take about 6 weeks to recover and man, oh man…it hurt!
Good luck.
You are also going to have to change your diet and say goodbye to deep fried foods and alot of fatty foods. In other words if you truly want to help yourself!!!, a low fat diet is now to be had.
I had mine removed after a year of thinking it was very bad heartburn. After an acute attack, I ended up in the ER and was admitted. A few days later, after the inflammation went down, they removed it because I had gallstones. A day or two later, I had one episode of what felt like another attack which caused me to vomit – that hurt alot due to the recent surgery. After that, I had no more pain and not more ‘heart burn’ lol. It was wonderful after having so much pain the year prior. I’ve had no side effects from the surgery which was over 7 years ago. Although, I have heard of a few people not being able to tolerate greasy food after surgery – I think it causes them to have diarrhea.
