What is the best way to cure diarrhea aside from apples and bananas?

My 9 month old baby has some sort of diarrhea and it’s been going on for 3 days. She doesn’t want to drink what the doctor prescribed to her – the pedialyte – and she wants to drink milk instead which makes her diarrhea worse. I don’t know what to do anymore.

Diarrhea is like cough in the sense that it isn’t actually a disease but a defense mechanism. We cough because there is something blocking our airway and we need to expell it. We have diarrhea because there is somthing we ate which needs to be expelled out of our digestive tract. Thus cough suppressants and anti-diarrheal medications which temporarily paralyze our intestines MUST be used with caution since they might actually make the situation worse by preventing the thing the needs to be expelled from being expelled.
For the pediatric age group, what’s important is for you to watch out for signs of dehydration. Its not the diarrhea which is dangerous but the dehyrdation. That is why children are never given loperamide. They’re given pedialyte and other rehydrating substances, BECAUSE it is dangerous for a baby to become dehydrated. The fluid lost in the stool MUST be replaced with an almost equal volume of oral fluid intake.
As for milk making things worse, NOT unless the actual source of the diarrhea is an allergy to her milk formula, milk doesn’t make it worse. If your pediatrician was suspecting milk allergy as the cause, then he/she would have instructed you to change milk formulas. Milk rehydrates as well as pedialyte and will NOT make the diarrhea worse. Its better than not taking anything at all. Milk nourishes and rehydrates at the same time.
If your baby refuses to take any fluid at all (including milk) then this is one of the ominous signs of dehydration. You should go to the ER right away if ever this happens.
Baby rice cereal. No cow’s milk. Try soy milk instead.
you are the mom and you are in charge. The baby will drink the pedialyte when she gets thirsty enough. Her little gut needs to be allowed to rest, and until you stop the milk, it won’t get that chance. Offer her the pedialyte or just plain water for at least 24 hours, and nothing else. Then re introduce the milk, but water it down to half strength. Rice and dry bread added to the applesauce and bananas will help to firm up her stools. You can also give her a little yogurt to replace the natural bacteria her bowel needs to digest the food she gets.
To be honest you need to let it run its course. Something is causing it in the first place and you need to get that bad bacteria out. If you treat the symptoms but not the true cause, it could only lead to something worse. I think you should call your doctor again. Good-luck
try giving her ANY form of fluid. you do not want your baby getting dehydrated at all.. any juice, water anything. give the baby bananas and toast lots of it.. just keep pumping fluids into your baby even if it wont eat.. make sure shes getting fluids..

I know this might sound a little odd, but my mother-in-law suggested to me one time to give her 1 teaspoon of corn syrup (you can dilute in a bottle of warm water). It worked for my daughter when she was having the problem. If the problem persists I wouldn’t let you baby go 3 or more days without seeing the doctor again, and try to avoid the milk. Cottage cheese, believe it or not. Cheese is binding and it’s close enough to dairy to satisfy her milk craving. A couple of tablespoons for three consecutive days is enough for a kitten or pup so try 1/4 to 1/2 a cup for your daughter.
Um, that’s probably why she has diarrhea, apples do not cure that its probably making it worse. Bananas are only good for protein, so I do not know how they will cure it either. What you can do is bye some Karo Syrup, you should be able to get it from any grocery store, and another thing; if you say milk is also making it work she is probably can’t drink milk with lactose, that could be what’s causing it. Trust me, I know what I’m talking about, I went through it with my five years old when he was smaller.
First of all try to convince your daughter to take what the doctor prescripted, if she does not abide force her a little. You should do that as a mother. If you can’t then try the following: give her as a drink a bottle of cola with two tbsp. of corn starch. you may give her also hard boiled egg, raw carrot if she will take it if not the give her cooked ones, you may also give her plane rice with ham or broiled fish. never give her fats and oil or you may wash her stomach with boiled water with tea, three bags per liter. Hope you can administer any of these to your daughter or else you should force her to take the doctor’s prescription. LASTLY GIVE HER PLENTY (1 li a day) dextrose drink like gatorade, aquarius, etc. Don’t take diarrhea for granted.
If she has had diarrhea for 3 days non stop you might want to take her to the doctor. Could be some sort of food allergy or other problem. I would not keep waiting as she may become dehydrated, etc.
